Stormers to be boosted by R15 million new home turf

It is going to cost as much as R15 million to replace the DHL Stadium turf, the home of the Stormers, ahead of the next season.

One of the biggest talking points of the season just concluded will not be raised next season.

It will come as a huge relief to both backs and forwards that the DHL Stadium pitch will soon be replaced.

While the backs slipped and lost their footing trying evade defenders, the forwards churned up the turf with each and every scrum.

It is going to cost as much as R15 million to replace the DHL Stadium turf, the home of the Stormers, ahead of the next season.

R15 million spent on ‘fast pitch’

“It’s en route to Cape Town as we speak and it’s going to be a fast pitch!” DHL Stadium CEO Lesley De Reuck explained.

The surface will suit the free running Stormers backline, who play an exclusively attacking and forward thinking brand of rugby.

Springbok Rugby World Cup-winning wing Cheslin Kolbe has left Toulon three months before South Africa begin the defence of their title, the French club announced on Monday.

“Rugby Club Toulonnais and Cheslin Kolbe have mutually agreed to release each other from their commitments at the end of the 2022-2023 season. This allows Cheslin Kolbe to commit to a new project from the 2023-2024 season,” said the club in a statement.

Kolbe, who is 29, joined Toulon from Top 14 rivals Toulouse in 2021, and scored six tries in 18 matches this season despite an ankle sprain which sidelined him for a month.

“I would have liked to have stayed at Toulon, but the financial constraints on clubs and injuries made things difficult,” Kolbe said on the club website.
