It ended 1-1 between Stellenbosch and Orlando Pirates in their DStv Premiership fixture at the Danie Craven Stadium on Wednesday night.

In other fixtures, there were wins for Royal AM and Sekhukhune United, while TS Galaxy shocked Mamelodi Sundowns.

Pirates made four changes to the team that beat Swallows, while Stellies, with just one centre-back available, were forced to give a debut to teenage makeshift defender Oshwin Andries.

Stellenbosch 1-1 Orlando Pirates

It was a cold and wet night in the Winelands, with both teams showing enterprise from the get-go. Fawaaz Basadien tried a long-range shot in the tenth minute, but it went wide of goal.

Thembinkosi Lorch went just wide in the 18th minute, while Antonio Van Wyk, who only just came on for the injured Glen Hahn, went close from a tight angle two minutes later, but found the side-netting.

Stellies began to create chances, and captain Rafiq De Goede went close from a corner in the 25th minute, but his goal-bound header was cleared off the line by Pirates’ skipper Innocent Maela.

It was an action-packed first half hour, Stellies felt they should have got a penalty, while Pirates were lucky not to be down to ten men, with Olisa Ndah fortunate to not get a second booking for a dangerous tackle on Van Wyk.

Van Wyk went on a great run in the 38th minute, but when he unleashed his shot it flew over the bar.

Pirates grabbed the lead, somewhat against the run of play, when Nkosinathi Sibisi headed in from a corner in the 44th minute.

Steve Barker was furious with the officiating of Luxolo Badi, and gave him a mouthful at the break.

Stellies were level in the 54th minute, Argentinian Junior Mendieta doing well to head in Basadien’s cross.

Goodman Mosele took a shot in the 57th minute, but it went straight at Sage Stephens, while another effort four minutes later was deflected just wide.

Having come off the bench, Thabiso Monyane tried a cross-come-shot in the 90th minute, but it flew past Stephens’ goal.

And it ended 1-1 at full-time, both teams remain unbeaten, but have dropped points.

Sekhukhune United 1-0 Golden Arrows

Sekhukhune picked up a win at home as they beat Arrows 1-0 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

It looked to be heading to a goalless first half, but Tashreeq Morris took advantage of a defensive mix-up, to score his first for Sekhukhune in stoppage time.

Despite a strong effort from Arrows in the second half to get back into the game, Kaitano Tembo’s men held firm to take the three points.

Chippa United 1-3 Royal AM

Chippa suffered their first defeat under Daine Klate as they lost 3-1 at home to Royal AM at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha.

Andre De Jong put the visitors in front at the half-hour mark with a right-foot shot, the New Zealander grabbing his first goal in Royal AM colours.

De Jong got his second in the 41st minute, this time heading in, to give Royal AM a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break.

The home team pushed hard in the second half and were eventually rewarded in the 75th minute when Diego Appollis headed in Sirgio Kammies’ cross.

But Royal AM had their two-goal lead back in a minute, as Ruzaigh Gamildien made it 3-1 with a simple tap-in.
