Stellenbosch sign three Pirates and Sundowns players

Following Orlando Pirates’ confirmation of Mabasa’s exit and Mamelodi Sundowns’ similar communication, Stellenbosch have made it official:

“We are delighted to announce the triple signing of Tshegofatso Mabasa, Kobamelo Kodisang, and Mosa Lebusa,” the club said.

The announcement confirms that new head coach Gavin Hunt has added significant top-flight experience to his squad.

TWO LOAN DEALS AND ONE PERMANENT SWITCH

Tshegofatso Mabasa

Mabasa joins Stellenbosch from Orlando Pirates on loan until the end of the season. Despite being a popular figure at the Buccaneers, the striker struggled for regular minutes this campaign, making nine appearances across all competitions and scoring four goals.

Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou previously explained that Mabasa was not an ideal fit for his pressing-based system.

The Botshabelo-born forward leaves the Sea Robbers with an impressive record, having scored 50 goals in 140 matches, making him the club’s second-highest goalscorer in the PSL era behind Benedict Vilakazi.

Mosa Lebusa

Lebusa, meanwhile, makes a permanent move after ending a highly successful seven-year spell at Sundowns.

The 33-year-old centre-back departs as one of the most decorated players of the club’s modern era, having made 207 appearances, scored nine goals, and won seven consecutive league titles, along with the Telkom Knockout and Carling Black Label Cup.

Kobamelo Kodisang

Kodisang also joins from Sundowns and reunites with Hunt, who previously coached him at Bidvest Wits. The winger returns to South Africa after a short loan stint at Portuguese side AVS FS, where he scored once in five appearances before the loan was terminated early.

STELLENBOSCH STAR JOINED ORLANDO PIRATES

In related news, the Buccaneers signed Andre de Jong from Stellenbosch FC.

Following a few months of chasing, the 29-year-old forward will wear the famous black and white after an earlier attempt in September that fell short.

De Jong arrives after three goals and one assist in 22 matches for Stellies in the first half of the current season.

Last season, he delivered eight goals and five assists in 47 appearances across all competitions. Beyond the stats, De Jong is valued for his intelligence, selflessness, and ability to create space and balance in attack.

“Orlando Pirates is pleased to announce the signing of Andre de Jong. Welcome, Andre,” the Sea Robbers said on social media.
