Stellenbosch put up another five-star performance to dismiss AS Vita 2-0 in a CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round, first leg clash at Cape Town Stadium on Friday.

Thabo Moloisane ensured the home side took an advantage seven minutes into the contest before Lehlohonolo Mojela doubled Stellies’ advantage five minutes later.

It was an inspiring evening for the hosts who will now look to finish the job when they visit the Congolese giants next weekend.

The two first-half goals gave Stellenbosch an advantage and the Cape Winelands side managed to hold on to it.

For the first time this season in any competition, Ivorian defender Ismael Toure started a match after initially submitting a transfer request.

The Congolese giants had Malian midfielder Aboubacar Diarra together with Cameroonian centre-back Patrick Tchom and Beniniese linkman Ibrahim Ogoulola starting.

The Cape Winelands side started on the offensive from the first whistle and almost broke the deadlock twice within the opening four minutes through Devin Titus and Sihle Nduli.

As the teams were still trying to read each other, Moloisane headed in a corner to break the deadlock.

It gave the hosts a spring in their step and shortly after, Mojela made up for Titus failing to bury a chance and fired into the net.

The home side continued dominating and Nigerian forward Ibraheem Jabaar forced some desperate defending from AS Vita who had a defender clearing danger on the goal line on 65 minutes.

Stellenbosch managed to hold on to the advantage they will carry into the second leg as they seek to reach the group stage at the first time of attempt.
