After a full round of midweek games in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Cape Town Spurs moved into first place on the log.
On Tuesday Cape Town Spurs moved top of the table after beating Baroka 3-2 at the Athlone Stadium. Therlo Moosa scored a brace, while Boitumelo Radiopane came off the bench to score Spurs’ third goal. While the scoreline suggests a closer game, it was dominated by Spurs, who conceded twice in bizarre circumstances, and against the run of play, though the second was a mere consolation goal just before full-time.
There was a huge confidence-boosting win for Black Leopards, as they won 1-0 in the derby away against Magesi. Magesi fans were furious after the game, and surrounded Clinton Larsen’s car as the coach made his departure.
AmaTuks have had a rough time in 2023, and once again were on the losing side as Hungry Lions pulled off a 2-1 victory in Tshwane. The Northern Cape outfit are currently fourth, and hoping for a slip-up from one of those in the top three.
La Masia continued their revival under Aschwin Sutton and picked up a 2-0 away win against the coach’s former team, Platinum City Rovers.
On Wednesday, Venda Football Academy picked up an important three points as they beat JDR Stars 2-1, while All Stars picked up a good 2-0 win away at Uthongathi.
Meanwhile it ended goalless between Pretoria Callies and Tshakhuma.
But all eyes were on the top-of-the-table clash between Polokwane City and Casric Stars. Polokwane, who would return top with a win or draw, were dealt a huge blow when Francis Baloyi was sent off early in the game for a horror tackle. Abbey Seseane then gave Casric the lead, and they were able to hold on for the three points.
Casric remain third, but are on now only trailing City on goal difference, with Spurs leading the log by one point.
