Cape Town Spurs have announced the appointment of Sean Connor as Technical Director.

Spurs suffered their seventh straight defeat on Saturday, losing 3-1 to rivals Cape Town City in the iKapa derby.

Now, with the future of coach Shaun Bartlett, hanging in the balance, the club have brought in the Northern Irish Connor as technical director.

This is not Connor’s first time in South Africa and he had an undistinguished stint at Black Leopards in 2014. However, he lasted only two months at the club, never receiving his work permit.

Two years prior he spent six months at CAPS United in Zimbabwe, having previously coached clubs like Galway United, Dundalk, Bohemian and Sligo Rovers in his own country.

It is believed that the 56-year-old Connor has already been around the club for some time, and filled in when assistant Nasief Morris was unavailable after having surgery.

“Cape Town Spurs F.C. have appointed Sean Connor as the club’s technical director with immediate effect,” the club posted on their social media.

“Connor is a UEFA pro license coach with extensive experience in various roles in the industry.

“Connor will be tasked with all football operations at Ikamva and will ensure that the club’s football objectives are met.

“The board wishes Sean every success.”
