Spring cleaning does not have to stop at your cupboards and wardrobe. Your hair routine could probably use a refresh, too.
As the weather starts to warm up, it is a good time to take a closer look at the products, washing habits, and techniques that have become part of your routine.

Davines artistic director Angelo Seminara shared a few simple ways to give your hair regimen a spring reset before summer arrives with Vogue Australia.
The biggest lesson? More product and more frequent washing do not necessarily mean healthier-looking hair.
1. Start by looking at your washing routine
How often you wash your hair can make a difference, and Angelo recommends washing every two to three days with shampoo and conditioner appropriate for your hair type.
Using the right products is just as important as how often you use them.
If you are unsure about your hair type, your next salon appointment could be the perfect time to ask. Rather than simply sitting back while your stylist works, find out which products they use and why they have chosen them for your hair.
2. You might be using too much product
More shampoo or conditioner is not automatically better.
According to Angelo, the amount you need should depend on the texture of your hair. Those with fine hair should generally use less product, while people with coarse hair may need more.
It is worth paying attention to how your hair responds instead of automatically reaching for another squeeze.

3. Do not rush the rinse
Product build-up can affect the way hair looks and behaves, particularly when it comes to finer hair.
Angelo recommends making sure both shampoo and conditioner are rinsed out thoroughly.
It is an easy part of the routine to overlook, especially when you are trying to get through your shower quickly. But taking a little extra time to rinse properly can help prevent leftover product from weighing the hair down.
4. Dry or damaged hair may need a break
If your hair is already dry or damaged, washing it as frequently may not be ideal.
Seminara suggests extending the gap between washes to around three to four days if possible. The aim is to reduce the stress that shampooing can place on the hair.
Of course, how long you can comfortably go between washes will depend on your individual hair and routine.
