Tickets for the highly anticipated Soweto derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 28 February have officially sold out.

Kick-off is scheduled for 15:30.

Demand was overwhelming, with supporters snapping up seats in record time both online and at retail outlets.

The clash will be the first of two league Soweto derbies this season, with the return fixture set for 25 April.

Title race implications

The match could have a significant impact on the Betway Premiership title race.

At the halfway stage of the season, Orlando Pirates lead the standings with 35 points from 15 matches.

Defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns sit second on 32 points, while Kaizer Chiefs are third with 30 points from the same number of games.

Both sides have been particularly impressive defensively.

Orlando Pirates have conceded just five goals, while Kaizer Chiefs have let in six.

In attack, Orlando Pirates hold the advantage with 22 goals scored, compared to Kaizer Chiefs’ 15.

Kaizer Chiefs last won the league title in the 2014/15 season, while Orlando Pirates’ most recent triumph came in 2011/12.

Since the start of the PSL era in 1996/97, both clubs have lifted the league trophy four times.

Security and fan advisory

Supporters who secured tickets are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy pre-match entertainment and activations organised by Kaizer Chiefs and their sponsors. Early arrivals will also stand a chance to win prizes.

Fans without tickets have been urged not to gather around the stadium precinct. Authorities have indicated that security will be on high alert to ensure crowd safety.

Before the Soweto derby at the end of the month, both sides face some tricky matches.
