South African Reserve Bank (SARB) is the central bank of South Africa. It is the banker of the South African government responsible for the regulation of currencies in the country and maintaining financial stability. This creates sustainable economic growth, which is necessary for building a better, stronger South Africa.
SARB was established as per the Currency and Bank Act of August 1920 and is directly accountable to the parliament. It also represents the economic interests of South Africa at international forums like the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank, BRICS, Financial Stability Board (FSB), Group of 20 (G20), among others.
South African Reserve Bank Internship
South African Reserve Bank Internship programme is intended for existing employees of SARB and recent postgraduates who want to gain relevant work experience in the field of banking. Under the Graduate Development Programme initiative (which the internship programme is a part of), SARB aims to upskill the next generation of bankers and leaders who will contribute to the country’s economic well-being.
The internship programme will expose interns to the various initiatives at SARB Academy. They’ll be working out of the SARB head office at Pretoria while learning basic central banking concepts. The tasks and projects will range anywhere from analysing a document to preparing financial forecasts.
The internship programme will begin from January 2023 through to December 2023. After a one-year period, some of the interns will get permanent job offers from SARB. The most likely candidates are those who:
are genuinely interested in making a career at SARB
are motivated to contribute to the monetary policy and financial affairs of South Africa
have demonstrated attributes like excellence, accountability, trust, and respect during the internship
meet all the eligibility requirements of the job offer
During the internship, all participants are entitled to receive a stipend for their contribution. Shortlisted candidates will get more information regarding this via email.

To be selected for the internship programme, candidates must meet certain eligibility criteria. These are laid out by SARB to select the best candidates. Since there are a limited number of internship positions available, it cannot award everyone. Therefore, always cross-check before applying to avoid rejection.
