About SARB
The central bank of South Africa was founded in 1921 to correct the abnormal monetary and financial state of the nation resulting from World War I. It is the fourth central bank established beyond the borders of the UK and Europe. The SARB is a privately-owned and the oldest central bank in Africa.
As the central bank of Africa, the SARB’s functions are:
Create and implement monetary policy
Issue coins and banknotes
Supervise the nation’s banking system
Ensure that the National Payment System (NPS) is functioning effectively
Manage the country’s official gold as well as foreign exchange reserves
Serve as banker to the South African government
Manage the nation’s remaining exchange controls
Act as lender of last resort in times of exceptional need
South African Reserve Bank Graduate Development Programme 2022
The successful candidate will have an opportunity to work and learn at SARB’s headquarters where the graduate programme will run from January to December 2023 at the SARB Academy. During the graduate programme, the graduate will gain exposure to a range of learning interventions based wholly in central banking and are all are geared toward developing well-equipped and versatile central bankers. Furthermore, the successful candidate is expected to acquire the following professional and personal skills such as:
Assertive communication
Public speaking and presentations
Developing effective PowerPoint presentations
Impactful reporting
Teamwork
Personal excellence and etiquette
At the end of the Graduate Programme, selected graduates will be offered permanent positions in SARB. The selection of graduates will be based on the following criteria:
Interested in growing a career at SARB
Inclined to contribute to financial stability, monetary policy, currency management, financial markets, supervising financial institutions
Displayed behavior aligned with SARB’s values such as excellence, accountability, respect, integrity, open communication, and trust
Able to work and contribute independently or as part of a team
Showed superior performance at work and in academics
