- Twenty-one national parks will offer free access to visitors for a week in September.
- The annual event aims to promote conservation and a sense of national heritage.
- Free entry does not include accommodation or other tourist activities.
South African National Parks (SANParks) has announced that visitors will be granted free entry to 21 of its national parks for one week in September.
The initiative aims to encourage South Africans to take pride in their country’s natural, cultural, and historical heritage.
The annual SA National Parks Week will run from 22 to 26 September, with free access extended to 27 and 28 September at selected parks.
This initiative, which began in 2006, has consistently attracted a large number of day visitors to participating parks.
The official launch of this year’s campaign will be marked by a celebratory event at Kruger National Park on 21 September.
SANParks stated that the campaign provides “education and awareness about South Africa’s inclusive approach to conservation,” and highlights the importance of partnerships with local communities, businesses, scientists, and tourists in promoting sustainable development.
While entry to the parks will be free, visitors are reminded that this does not include accommodation or other tourist activities.
For specific dates and details on when each park will be participating, the public can visit the SANParks website.
