Banyana Banyana defender Lebogang Ramalepe was stuck in Turkey last night and could not get to Minsk in Belarus following the airline’s decision to cancel flights to Belarus.
iDiski Times has it on good authority that Ramalepe was stuck in Turkey and the cancelation of the flights is as a result of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Ramalepe was on her way from Algeria where South Africa qualified for the 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) with a 3-1 aggregate score over two legs.
The 31-year-old Limpopo-born Ramalepe was due to catch a connecting flight from Turkey to Belarus and discovered that there were no flights leaving for that country.
The airline however made alternative arrangements for their passengers, putting them in local hotels for some time.
This publication also understands that Ramalepe has been in communication with South African football authorities who are hard at work to ensure her safety.
If things do not change Ramalepe could return home to South Africa until things settle in that part of the world.
