South Africa mourns veteran actor Seputla Sebogodi

South Africa is mourning the loss of celebrated actor Seputla Sebogodi, whose family confirmed that he passed away on the evening of 15 July 2026 following complications related to diabetes.

The announcement, shared through a family media statement, has prompted an outpouring of condolences from fans and colleagues across the country.

A career that defined South African storytelling 

Sebogodi was one of South Africa’s most respected performers, with a career spanning decades across television, film and theatre. He became a household name for his portrayal of Kenneth Mashaba on Generations, while also earning acclaim for roles in Suburban Bliss, Bophelo ke Semphekgo, Scandal!, Redemption and numerous stage productions.

His versatility and commanding screen presence made him one of the country’s most recognisable actors.

Family requests privacy 

In its statement, the Sebogodi family confirmed that the actor passed away after complications related to diabetes and asked for privacy as they grieve. The family described his contribution to South African theatre and television as an extraordinary legacy that will continue to inspire future generations.

Funeral and memorial service details are expected to be shared at a later stage.
