Nhlamulo “Nota” Baloyi has seemingly rescinded an apology to white South Africans, which he was ordered to do during an episode of the podcast The Hustler’s Corner. However, the controversial entertainer has continued to label the minority “Neanderthals” on his X account.
NOTA BALOYI ISSUES APOLOGY AFTER SPENDING TIME IN PRISON
According to Sunday World, Nota Baloyi was ordered by the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) to issue a public apology for his comments about white South Africans.
In a letter of demand, Nota was also instructed to rescind all offensive statements, take part in human rights awareness training, and pay R150 000 to an organisation that promotes reconciliation.
Speaking in an episode of The Hustler’s Corner, Nota said: “I wish to extend my heartfelt apologies to anyone who felt threatened or hurt by my words. I understand the importance of fostering a culture of respect, and I am committed to turning this incident into a learning experience both for myself and the people who follow my content”.
Nota continued: “I believe that through honest dialogue, sincere apologies, we can work towards healing and reconciliation. I am committed to this process and to rebuilding trust.
“My remarks were made as part of a dialogue about South Africa’s oppressive past. However, I understand that this context does not excuse my words.
Addressing those he had offended, he added: “I specifically wish to apologise to the white community for my remarks. My words were hurtful and inappropriate, and I deeply regret the pain they may have caused.”
SORRY, NOT SORRY?
While Nota Baloyi paid lip service to his court-ordered apology, his X posts revealed otherwise.
The 35-year-old continued to call white South Africans “Neanderthals” in clapbacks to his critics.
He also retweeted several telling posts that implied his apology was insincere. They included:
“If you were sincere, you would look at the camera, not read a prepared speech that you can hardly read prepared by whoever.”
“A genuine apology comes from the heart, not from a screen.”
“This is forced. It’s not sincere. He had no choice.”
“I’m a body language expert. He gave himself away in the first 24 seconds… deceptive, psychological issues, violent tendencies. Major, major red flags.”
