Song Names Strong Cameroon World Cup Squad

Cameroon head coach Rigobert Song has named his 26-man squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup which includes in-from Bayern Munich striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.

Song was a bold appointment by FECAFOOT Federation President Samuel Eto’o who made sweeping changes after their third-place finish at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil.

And it paid immediate dividends as they ousted North African giants Algeria for a place in Qatar as one of Africa’s five representatives for the global showpiece and over the months that followed his squad talent pool has improved due to the form of some of his key figures coming into the tournament.

Souaibou Marou and Jerome Ngom are some of the notable inclusions as rare domestic-based selections while 68-time capped defender Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui (31) who plies his trade in Belgium with Gent has been omitted.

Former captain Choupo-Moting, whose Indomitable Lions career looked to be heading to a dead end has forced himself back into the reckoning after scoring 10 goals in 15 games for Bayern this season as he stepped into the shoes of superstar forward Robert Lewandowski after his switch to FC Barcelona.

Cameroon are in Grop G alongside Brazil, Serbia, and Switzerland and kick off their continental record eighth campaign, led by Vincent Aboubakar on 24 November.
