New Somerset Hospital workers who were on duty at the time of last night’s shooting are getting counselling according to Deputy Health Minister Sibongiseni Dhlomo.
A patient grabbed a police officer’s firearm and shot the officer.
The suspect also shot two patients, who died on the scene.
The police officer died later.
Dhlomo said, “I was very delighted to find that all our stuff members, largely nurses who are females, were in a session of getting some counselling.”
“It was those staff members who witnessed that tragic incident yesterday [Saturday], I want to commend how quickly the decision that has been taken by the hospital together with the MEC to get our staff members quickly in through the counselling session because what they went through yesterday is actually something we would not want to see or happen to your enemy.”
