Kaizer Chiefs wing-back Dillan Solomons admits he was ‘a bit nervous’ about the Royal AM saga that unfolded after he signed from Swallows.
Solomons, 23, was unveiled by Chiefs at the end of June but shortly after Royal AM CEO Sinky Mnisi stated something ‘would unfold’ over the transfer.
His representatives and Swallows quickly played down the notion that Chiefs were in the wrong, with the transfer being completed legitimately.
However, it’s been alleged that the Dube Birds received R1.5-million for the services of the player and two of his teammates, namely Khetukuthula Ndlovu and Ruzaigh Gamildien.
While the attacking duo have since joined the KZN outfit, Solomons was adamant that he wanted the move to Amakhosi but he admits it was a nerve-wracking experience after.
“Um, well basically, I knew where I wanted to be. And I didn’t feel any type of way. I knew that it would just blow over because I knew the situation that I was in [with Royal AM and Swallows],” he said.
“And like, at that moment, I was a bit nervous, but obviously, I knew I didn’t do anything wrong or whatever, I did it the right way. So ja, that’s how I felt at that moment.
“I wasn’t fully aware of it, I just heard that Royal AM wanted players at that moment. But I wasn’t fully aware that they did whatever they did.
“So for me, I’m happy where I am now. It was a big decision for me. So it took a lot to get my agent to try and get this deal done.
“But we worked hard and last season was just like a breakthrough season for me. So this decision, it wasn’t easy cause I mean, a lot of people dream of this and to get this opportunity means the world to me.”
Solomons scored four goals and registered four assists in 37 games across all competitions for Swallows in the 2021/22 season.
