Arne Slot’s Liverpool conceded their first goal of the season; and it cost them the game.
The tables turned for the first time this campaign as Manchester United started gameweek three with a strong comeback following their 3-0 defeat to Liverpool before the international break.
The Reds, on the other hand, were defeated by Nottingham Forest at Anfield as Callum Hudson-Odoi got the only goal of the afternoon.
55 years after last winning at the Merseyside fortress, Forest shocked the hosts with a classic counter attacking display.
Nuno Espírito Santo’s side were on the back foot from the onset, but held on until the opportunity came their way.
Once Hudson Odoi and Anthony Elanga were introduced off the bench, the chance for a famous victory was presented.
Slot’s chance to become the first ever manager to win his first four games in charge without conceding was quickly lost; and instead the Reds find themselves chasing Manchester City already.
It was Erling Haaland at the double once more as the Citizens came back from behind to beat Brentford 2-1 elsewhere on the goal rush.
In the other games, there were draws galore as Fulham versus West Ham ended 1-1, Leicester City against Crystal Palace finished 2-2 and it was goalless between Brighton and Ipswich Town.
Ollie Watkins netted a brace as Aston Villa overcame Everton 3-2 in the evening while Chelsea beat Bournemouth 1-0 away from home in the late game.
