Skhwama Grateful For Chance To Fight For A Trophy

Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila forward Tshepo “Skhwama” Matete appreciates the opportunity to win a trophy. Matete was speaking ahead of the GladAfrica Championship side’s Nedbank cup quarter-final game against SuperSport United in Thohoyandou on Friday night.
Matete was part of the group that helped Baroka FC gain promotion to the big league but believes the cup is different.
“I think with Baroka when we came to PSL we won the league, so I was in that group but this one is different because it’s Nedbank, I mean it will mean so much. Just to be in the quarter-finals it’s a blessing and the guys are pushing, they are doing great and it is anyone’s dream to be part of this big tournament,” said the 30-year-old.
Matete signed for TTM in January for six months and he says his second stint in the professional set-ups is better because he has learned. Matete has on several occasions been criticised for his skilful way of play, however, says at TTM he has been given the freedom though advised to be productive with his skill.
“There is something different for me personally because I have grown so much. As a player, I personally got maybe too much rejection here and there because people don’t understand me or the way I play, but the coaches and the staff here, they received me very well. I’m enjoying myself. The coach always tells me I must do it (skills) but more offensive and if it is benefitting the team then it is good but if it’s not, it’s like I’m not doing anything. But the coach has confidence in me and he always motivates me,” he added.
With fans expected back at stadiums in domestic matches for the first time in two years, the former Township Rollers FC and Mbabane Highlanders man says he has a Gucci bag full of skills to show the crowd in Thohoyandou.
