Television actress Makgofe Moagi has become the latest celebrity to become a victim of gender-based violence.
Africa Daily can exclusively reveal that Moagi, who stars in Mzansi Magic’s Genesis, has opened a case of common assault against her husband, Mandla Mazibuko, at Midrand Police Station.
He was arrested and released on bail.
This was after he allegedly beat her up in a domestic violence tiff that erupted at their matrimonial pad in Blue Valley, Centurion.
So violence was the alleged row that one of the doors of their posh crib in the ritzy gated estate was left extensively damaged.
The shocking news was leaked to Africa Daily by a deep throat who did not want to be named for fear of reprisal. The mole, who is privy to the former Skeem Saam thespian, alleged that Mazibuko arrived at the two lovebirds’ marital crib on 11 September and became extremely violent when she spoke to him about their union.
The tipster alleged that Mazibuko pushed Moagi so violently before punching her on several occasions on her solar plexus.
It is alleged that the actress, who played Charity Mabu on Skeem Saam, alerted her associates after the incident who advised her to unleash the police on her husband.
The actress, who hails from Phalaborwa in Limpopo, went to Midrand Police Station after being moered and opened a case against Mazibuko. He was arrested later.
The informant’s version of events is corroborated by a truncated police statement which Africa Daily has seen.
“She alleged that her husband forcefully pushed her and beat her using his fist and also damaged the main bedroom door, which will cost about R30 000 to repair,” read the statement.
Moagi, the former presenter of Motswako show on SABC 2, declined to comment.
“No comment as this matter is sub judice,” she said.
Mazibuko also declined to comment, citing the sub judice rule.
The allegation that Moagi was assaulted like an unwanted step child by her husband comes at a time when South Africa is battling the scourge of femicide.
Gauteng Police Spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko confirmed the alleged domestic violence involving Moagi and her husband.
“According to the case number provided, a case of common assault under the Domestic Violence Act and malicious damage to property was opened at Midrand Police Station and subsequently transferred to Olievenhoutbosch Police Station for further investigation.
The suspect was arrested and appeared before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on 13 September 2026, where the suspect was released on bail. The matter was postponed to 22 October 2026,” she said.
