Sizwe Dhlomo’s generational wealth and farming empire leaves Mzansi in awe

Sizwe Dhlomo is one of South Africa’s richest radio personalities. His wealth comes not just from his work in the entertainment industry but from a historically business-orientated family with interests in farming.

The radio personality started as an MTV Base presenter, and also, due to his dashing looks, he stayed on everyone’s lips. His work ethic has kept him relevant throughout the years, and today he is one of the most recognised media faces in the country.

In the mid-to-late 2000s, the presenter joined the music television show Live on SABC1 alongside Minnie Dlamini and Bonang Matheba.

Sizwe decided to try something different in the same industry and moved to radio.

Back in the day, when he was much younger, he opened up about how critical financial literacy is, especially amongst the black community. He said that since he started working, he has never been broke as he knows how to save and invest.  Sizwe has managed to stay off the urge of reckless spending and build an empire with his earnings.

Sizwe Dhlomo’s family farm

He is from a family with astute business history and knowledge. His grandfather Isaac Dhlomo acquired a farm in KwaZulu Natal during the apartheid era, and the family has been developing it ever since.

The farm has four notable divisions: cattle ranching, horse breeding, cropping and forestry. Sizwe likes horse breeding and forestry more, judging from the information he shares on social media.

The Dhlomo family has hundreds of hectares of timber that ensure they are loaded with cash for generations to come. The farm also grows smithii leaves which are used for various pharmaceutical benefits. Last year alone, they harvested over a hundred and fifty tonnes of Smitii leaves.

The family also rears the Bonsmara breed of cattle for beef and breeding. So heavy are the animals that they make an averagely of R15,000 per fully grown steer.

Sizwe also breeds horses at the farm, and he appears to be more actively involved with horses than any other venture at the farm.

So massive is the Dhlomo name that award-winning rapper AKA was forced to publicly apologise after being involved in a Twitter war with Sizwe. AKA was ‘reckless and stupid’ to question the Dhlomo’s ownership of a farm during the apartheid when only a few minority government-aligned blacks had farms.

I would like to apologize not to just the entire Dhlomo family but also to the friends and comrades offended by my tweets last week. After educating myself properly about the sacrifices made by Sizwe’s grandfather and others close to him, I realize how reckless and stupid that was.
