Sizwe Dhlomo drags Gayton McKenzie over coloured community remarks

Sizwe Dhlomo has once again taken aim at Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, showing no signs of easing his criticism.

The radio personality’s latest jab came after McKenzie’s recent interview, where he claimed that the coloured community is unfairly treated in South Africa.

The Minister’s comments follow growing calls for his removal, as more South Africans distance themselves from his leadership.

McKenzie, who has already faced backlash for resurfaced racist remarks made years ago, has now drawn further criticism with his latest statements.

Speaking on The Konvo Show with Penuel Mlotshwa on 13 August 2025, McKenzie dismissed the idea that coloured people don’t want to be identified as black, saying: “A lot of my black friends ask, ‘Why don’t coloured people want to be black?’ We wanna be African like you. The smartest black people don’t know that coloureds are considered black in this country… A coloured person can’t become African in South Africa.”

He went on to claim that the community is often excluded from opportunities: “The law says most opportunities should go to black people, particularly Africans. That’s why coloured people don’t get hired, their CVs go nowhere, they don’t get NSFAS funding, only a small majority. It’s Armageddon in our community.”

Sizwe was unimpressed, taking to X on 14 August with a blunt reaction: “This guy is an idiot. Lol!” His comment adds to a growing list of public criticisms he has levelled at McKenzie, including openly calling for the Minister to be fired.
