Ten-year-old Isabella Esterhuyse’s dream came true when she sang the national anthem at Mbombela Stadium while holding Siya Kolisi’s hand.

“My favourite part was holding Siya’s hand and handing over the trophy,” said Isabella, as reported in Thislife online magazine.

Bella was diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma earlier this year.

“I’ve always loved rugby. I miss it and can’t wait to get back on the field,” she said.

Isabella and her parents made the journey from East London to be at the match, where the Springboks beat Argentina 48-7.

“This day meant everything to Isabella,” said her mom, Tara. “We are overwhelmed by the love and support shown to our daughter.”

Reach for a Dream, an organisation that began in America and has been in South Africa since 1988, helped make Isabella’s dream come true.

Owen Parnell, past president of the Randburg Rotary Club, was inspired by the opportunity to establish a similar venture in South Africa.

The organisation fulfilled its first dream for a little boy named J.C. Steinman, who was given rides on a pony and a motorcycle on his birthday.

The foundation aims to make a difference in the lives of children fighting life-threatening illnesses.
