Springbok captain Siya Kolisi is set to leave the Hollywoodbets Sharks at the end of the current season in July 2026 and rejoin the DHL Stormers.

The 34-year-old, two-time Rugby World Cup–winning captain announced the move in an emotional video shared on social media, saying the decision was driven by his desire to be closer to his children.

“I’ve taken the decision to leave the Sharks and go to Cape Town to play for the Stormers,” Kolisi said.

“It’s been really tough because my life is amazing here. The union has been great to me, but I had to make a decision to be closer to my kids.”

Kolisi added that being away from his children had become increasingly difficult and that he did not want to miss important moments in their lives.

“It’s been really tough not being close to them and I think now it’s time for me to choose my kids because I want to be closer to them.

“I want to watch my son play and not miss those special moments,” he added.

Sharks CEO Shaun Bryans paid tribute to Kolisi, praising his impact both on and off the field.

“Siya’s contribution to The Sharks goes far beyond matchday. He brought a level of leadership, humility and perspective that lifted everyone around him. While it is never easy to say goodbye to a player of his calibre, we fully respect his decision to put his family first,” Bryan said.

Stormers Rugby CEO Johan le Roux said the franchise was delighted to welcome Kolisi back.

“Siya is a national icon who has such a strong connection to our team and our supporters. He is also a family man who wants to be there for his children as much as possible.”

Kolisi made his Stormers debut in 2012, captained the side from 2017, and has earned 118 caps for the franchise.

Kolisi has two children, a son and a daughter, with his ex-wife Rachel Kolisi. The couple announced their separation in October 2024, saying the decision was made after “much reflection and open conversations” and from “a place of love, respect and understanding.”
