Six out of nine provinces have confirmed their ABC Motsepe League champions, with Dondol Stars probably being among the favourites for this year’s playoff after their heroic run in the Nedbank Cup.
Eastern Cape confirmed few weeks ago that Amavarara will represent the province after defeating Peacemakers FC, who were then coached by Lehlohonolo Seema 2-1.
A week ago, a familiar name from Gauteng, Dondol Stars clinched the title with a game spare as they finished top of Gauteng ABC Motsepe League table with 77 points after 35 matches.
Western Cape side Young Bafana did it in their first season in the third division after defeating Zizwe United on penalties. It was a two leg match and United had won the first leg by 1-0. But Young Bafana remained calm and won the home leg by 1-0, before progressing on on penalties.
Mpumalanga and Northern Cape confirmed their champions this past weekend. Mlambo Royals FC will represent Mpumalanga and Upington City will fly the flag of Northern Cape. Another familiar name from North West is Orbit College.
KwaZulu Natal, Free State and Limpopo are yet to confirm their champions. The ABC Motsepe League promotional playoffs are set to take place in Durban with a date yet to be confirmed.
