Siv Ngesi defends launching affordable pads after criticism from women
South African actor Siv Ngesi isn’t backing down after facing backlash over his mission to tackle period poverty.
The outspoken TV star recently addressed negative reactions regarding his plans to launch a line of affordable, high-quality sanitary products.
Ngesi first revealed the initiative in August 2024, expressing his desire to make a difference in the lives of young girls who can’t afford basic sanitary care.
He emphasized that his vision goes beyond business and is rooted in a real desire to bring dignity to schoolgirls who often miss school or suffer in silence during their periods.
“I have always wanted my own range of affordable, high-quality, and locally made sanitary pads,” he shared online.
“Today, we spent over 8 hours testing sanitary pads from all over the world here in China! I never knew pads could be so exciting! A factory is coming soon to South Africa!!”
Despite some social media users criticizing his involvement in a women-focused issue, Siv has stood firm.
He clapped back at the hate, making it clear that his goal is to help, not to please everyone.
Ngesi has turned the criticism into fuel, proving once again that he’s willing to take bold steps where many won’t, especially when it comes to real social change.
I don’t have to get periods to care that young women miss up to 5 days of school a month because of a lack of sanitary products! https://t.co/2Ao4CK1sHW
