SIU And Hawks Raid PSiRA Centurion Offices Over Missing Records in R130m Tender Probe
The Special Investigating Unit (SIU), alongside the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (the Hawks), executed a major search and seizure raid at the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSiRA) head offices in Centurion.
The operation targets critical missing documentation linked to a controversial R130 million training tender.
The raid follows Proclamation 316 of 2026, signed by President Cyril Ramaphosa, which authorised the SIU to investigate allegations of maladministration, fraud, and financial loss.
The joint investigation with the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) covers training contracts meant to benefit 7,071 learners across South Africa.
According to SIU spokesperson Selby Makgotho, the unit resorted to a search warrant after PSiRA only partially complied with initial requests for information, completely omitting a full year’s worth of crucial data.
“The SIU uses search and seizure as a last resort to obtain information to assist with an investigation, after failing to secure full cooperation through cordial engagement,” Makgotho stated.
The probe focuses on three main training programmes initiated in 2019 that allegedly left over 6,000 unemployed individuals without valid qualifications or certificates, PSiRA Grade E to C Training and End-User Computing.
Investigators seized physical documents as well as electronic devices, including cellphones and laptops, to gather evidence.
Any evidence pointing to criminal activities will be handed directly to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for immediate prosecution.
