Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe says he hopes AmaZulu chairman Sandile Zungu can forgive him over the saga around his move to the Amakhosi.
Sithebe joined Chiefs ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, joining the Amakhosi on a free transfer from Usuthu. However, there were talks that Chiefs and Sithebe had already agreed on his move before he had entered the final six months of his contract.
The situation upset the AmaZulu bosses and resulted in the midfielder being frozen out by the KZN side for the entire second half of the campaign and final six months of his contacts. Ahead Chiefs’ MTN8 semi-final first leg with AmaZulu, Sithebe spoke about the issue with his former club.
“As I said before the Chairman knows what happened and I didn’t talk with him. Everything I heard was from the newspapers,” he told reporters.
“I don’t know if we did see eye to eye with him or what. That’s why I said whatever happened I’m sorry to him, so if he also forgives me then it’s good. I think he also knows where the mistake was.”
Sithebe also previewed the MTN8 semi-final first leg, saying he hopes Chiefs can take an advantage into the second leg at Moses Mabhida Stadium on 23 October.
“All I can say is firstly we are playing the first leg at home, if we can score more goals and obvious when we go away we know that we have those goals. When we go there we just know we have to maintain that game.
“I think this is what we need to do. Then go to the second leg and wait for them obviously with a plan then we get more goals.”
Amakhosi recently faced Usuthu in the DStv Premiership and the game ended with a goalless draw at FNB Stadium. The Ephefeni Glamour Boys had an opportunity to claim all the three points but Dillon Solomons missed a penalty in the match.
The last three fixtures between the two sides all ended in a draw but over the two semi-final legs a winner must be found to book their ticket for this year’s final.
