Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine is slowly but surely cementing his legendary status at the club.
Chaine joined the Sea Robbers as an underrated goalkeeper from Chippa United in September 2022.
At the time, Pirates had Richard Ofori as their No.1 with Siyabonga Mpontshane as the club’s second choice goalkeeper.
However, he worked his way up, and since making his debut in 2022, Chaine never looked back as he became the club’s No.1.
He has won a whopping eight trophies with Pirates – five under Jose Riveiro and three under Abdeslam Ouaddou.
Now, Chaine has joined some of the Pirates goalkeeping legends with his trend of keeping cleansheets for fun.
According to OptaJabu, Chaine is now sitting on 26 cleansheets since the start of 2026; the most by any of the previous Pirates goalkeepers in the PSL era.
His 26th cleansheet across all competitions came in Pirates’ 3-0 win over Milford FC the Carling Knockout Cup on Tuesday.
Chaine is the first Pirates goalkeeper to achieve this feat, and he has already surpassed the legendary Williams Okpara who recorded 25 cleansheets in 1999.
In 2025, Chaine came short of breaking Okpara’s then record as finished that year with 24 cleansheets.
The first time Chaine actually overtook the former Nigeria international (16) with 17 cleansheets was in 2024.
Overall, Okpara was impressive in three consecutive years for Pirates – 1997 (19), 1998 (16) and 1999 (25).
Furthermore, Moeneeb Josephs also left a huge mark with 20 cleansheets in all competitions for the Sea Robbers in 2009.
The late Senzo Meyiwa recorded 18 cleansheets for Pirates in 2013.
