Former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates striker Siphelele Mthembu has revealed the club where he enjoyed his football the most.

Mthembu is in the books of Motsepe Foundation Championship side Pretoria Callies. He joined the club in January on a six-month deal.

Among many teams he has played for in the DStv Premiership are Pirates, Chiefs, Golden Arrows, Platinum Stars, Free State Stars, Cape Town City and AmaZulu FC.

‘Shaka’ joined Callies halfway through the 2022/23 second-tier season. He found the team languishing in the relegation zone.

Mthembu scored four goals in all competitions for Callies in 10 matches.

Meanwhile, the Tshwane-based side won 10 games, drawing nine and losing 10 times. They are positioned eighth on the National First Division log with 39 points.

The well-travelled striker has highlighted the club where he enjoyed his football the most.

“I think I played my best football at Platinum Stars, and second best is Cape Town City,” Mthembu told FARPost.

“So the reason I played my best football at Platinum was the environment, diet, praying and worshipping God together.

“Also, the bunch of players who are willing to work for each other. Personally, I went two years just focusing on training, eating healthy, sleeping well and recovering.

“I was just focused because I wasn’t playing before I moved to Platinum Stars.

“I made sure I didn’t have a girlfriend for two years to keep my body fresh and recover quickly.

“So my thoughts were good, my energy was also good. I had good players like Robert Ng’ambi, Mogakolodi Ngele, Benson Mhlongo and Vuyo Mere.

Furthermore, Mthembu has weighed in on his future at Callies.

“I signed a six-month contract when I arrived in January. I’m just waiting for the season to end so I can know what the team decides to do,” he added.
