Mamelodi Sundowns’ CAF Champions League first leg will be officiated by Zambian referee Janny Sikazwe, who wrote headlines at the recent Africa Cup of Nations for ending a twice before the 90th minute.

Sikazwe will accompanied by Mozambican Arsenic Chadreque Maringule (first assistant) and the Seychellesian James Fredrick Emile (second assistant), Downs’ opponents Petro de Luanda have confirmed.

Masandawana will face the Angolan side away from home on 16 April at the Estadio 11 de Novembro.

Sikazwe wrote headlines during AFCON when he blew his final whistle twice before full-time in a match between Mali and Tunisia.

He first ended the game in the 85th minute, but after noticing his mistake the game continued until minute 89 when he officially ended the clash for a second time.

It was later revealed that Sikazwe suffered from a heat stroke, with the official himself claiming “God told me to end the match”.

Sundowns qualified after topping Group A ahead of Al Ahly, while Petro de Luanda finished runners-up in Group D behind Wydad Casablanca.

The referee for the return fixture in South Africa has also been confirmed already, with Ethiopian Bamlak Tesema Wayessa taking charge of the fixture.

He will be accompanied by Sudanese Mohammed Abdallah Ibrahim (first assistant) and Tanzanian Frank John Komba (second assistant), with the match taking place on 23 April.
