Sihle Zikalala, the premier of KZN, has been voted out of the position of ANC provincial chairperson.
Siboniso Duma, an ANC MPL, defeated Zikalala. Duma’s slate, who were members of the so-called Taliban faction, won handily.
Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu was chosen as Duma’s deputy. Mdumiseni Ntuli was defeated by Bheki Mtolo for the position of provincial secretary.
Sipho Hlomuka, MEC for Cogta, has retained his position as deputy provincial secretary. Ntuthuko Mahlaba, a former mayor of Newcastle, was elected treasurer.
On Sunday, the conference will nominate and vote for new members of the provincial executive committee.
