Sifiso Hlanti on Kaizer Chiefs’ failure to keep clean sheets

Kaizer Chiefs defender Sifiso Hlanti has opened up on Amakhosi’s failure to keep clean sheets in the DStv Premiership this season.

The left-back, Hlanti, admitted that the team has been conceding “silly goals” and they have been working hard for quite some time to have turned a corner when it comes to defending.

This campaign, the Soweto giants have conceded 31 goals in the league and managed to score 32 goals in the process.

As a result, Kaizer Chiefs find themselves in fourth place on the table with 44 points after 28 games, with their chances to qualify for the CAF Interclub competitions getting slimmer.

Sifiso Hlanti: ‘I WON’T SAY IT’S A WORRYING FACTOR’

However, the 33-year-old footballer insists that it’s not a “worrying factor” as this is it’s a game of mistakes.

“I won’t say it’s a worrying factor. You know, this it’s a game of mistakes of which at some stage we need to try and avoid such things [defensive errors] of which is true,” said Hlanti.

“But all in all, I think it’s a team effort and teamwork. We make mistakes in a game and we try to rectify those kinds of mistakes which at the end of the day we need to soldier on and be positive.

“We know very that it’s not a great feeling conceding silly goals. But we are working on that. We hope that things will come out the way we want.”

SIFISO HLANTI EXPECTS DEFENSIVE IMPROVEMENT

The highly-rated defender has since warned his side not to get complacent when they face arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals on Saturday, 6 May 2023.

Hlanti expects a defensive improvement from his team, as compared to their previous matches.

The game will take place at FNB Stadium, with the kick-off set for 15:00.
