Award-winning actress, Sibongiseni Shezi is beaming with pride after she recently clinched her second Simon Mabhunu Sabela award.

This time, the actress, who locked heads with Baby Cele and Sibusisiwe Jili on the nominations list, won an award for Best Actress Film, for her portrayal of Lethu on Netflix’s Umjolo: The Gone Girl.

Umjolo: The Gone Girl follows a riveting storyline which is set against the backdrop of a couple’s seemingly perfect relationship that falters when one of them learns of the other’s infidelity – but who said that relationships were easy? In the film, Sibongiseni starred alongside Tyson Mathonsi.

The actress recently took to her Instagram page to share her journey, with her two Simon Mabhunu Sabela Awards.

In an interview with The Citizen, Sibongiseni said: “So, I’m not gonna perform an act of false modesty and say the goal was never to be a lead, to be acknowledged in this capacity. However, the time at which it’s happening surprises me. A lot of life has occurred and I’ve been humbled by a lot of things that I think my receptors receiving it now is a lot more…it is overwhelming.

“I definitely think that these are answered prayers but they don’t look the way that I anticipated and they feel a lot better, The reality of where I come from, how hard it’s been makes this so worthwhile,” she said.
