Zambian forward Justin Shonga is living on borrowed time at Sekhukhune, with reports that management is growing frustrated at his off-field antics.

Chief among his transgressions is coming to training under the influence of alcohol. Three club sources confirmed the reports to FARPost.

“They’re contemplating on getting rid of him because of his behaviour. He has attended training under the influence of alcohol,” the source said.

The 25-year-old is not new to controversy. He has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons, including being suspended by his former club Orlando Pirates after breaking the Biologically Safe Environment (BSE) protocol which was aimed at curbing the spread of Covid-19 infections amongst players and the technical team.

The Chipolopolo star is believed to have angered the Babina Noko hierarchy, and his future with the club is hanging in the balance.

Contacted for comment, the club’s spokesperson Thina Ramantswana professed ignorance over the matter. “I don’t know anything about that [Shonga’s behaviour]; I wouldn’t want to comment on something I don’t know about,” she said.

It remains to be seen whether the former Cape Town City star will stay at the club beyond this season. He has scored two goals and provided one assist in 10 DStv Premiership games.
