Shimza urged to ‘make it official’ after 12 years with girlfriend Athi

Shimza and his longtime partner, Athi Geleba, have once again become a trending topic after a recent social media post reignited public debate about their future together.

The couple, who have been together for 12 years, seldom share details about their private life, but one stylish Instagram photo was enough to get Mzansi talking.

Athi, who serves as the ANC’s Head of Digital Communications, posted a picture of herself and Shimza on 27 November 2025.

Dressed in coordinated black outfits, the pair looked elegant and relaxed. “All black everything,” she captioned the photo, pairing her chic black dress and oversized sunglasses with the Jacquemus Le Petit Regalo Bag, reportedly worth over R19,000.

Shimza, who snapped the image, kept his look clean with a fitted tee, tinted shades and a silver wristwatch.

The post quickly circulated on X, where MDNnews claimed the couple was commemorating 12 years together.

However, Athi’s Instagram shows that they actually celebrated their anniversary back on 24 March, marked with roses and a nostalgic throwback photo from their early days.

Still, the timeline didn’t stop social media users from diving into a heated conversation about the couple’s next step.

Many argued that after 12 years, marriage should be on the table, urging Shimza to “pop the question” and wondering why the pair haven’t taken that leap yet.

In 2024, Shimza faced allegations of juggling long-term relationships with both Athi and his former partner, media personality K Naomi, who has since moved on and married.
