  • Two-year-old Omphile Sethole remains missing nearly a week after she was allegedly kidnapped from her home in Limpopo.
  • Police have intensified the search efforts while warning the public against spreading false information on social media.
  • Authorities confirmed reports claiming the toddler’s body was found are false and investigations are continuing.

It has been nearly a week since two-year-old Omphile Sethole was allegedly kidnapped from the comfort of her own home, and she still has not been found.

The toddler disappeared in the early hours of Saturday morning, 2 May 2026, while she was sleeping with her grandmother.

“It is alleged that at about 2 am, the victim’s 52-year-old grandmother woke up to visit the bathroom and took her granddaughter, Omphile Sethole, with her before returning to bed.

When the grandmother woke again at around 6 am, the child was missing, and a window of the room was open,” said Limpopo police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba.

At the time of her disappearance, Omphile was wearing a pink jersey and black tights.

Limpopo police have since intensified their efforts in the hope that the search will yield positive results for Omphile and her distraught family.

Meanwhile, police have called on the public to refrain from spreading misinformation on social media, clarifying that the toddler has not yet been located.

This comes after false reports circulated online claiming that Sethole’s lifeless body had been found in a hole.

“This information is untrue, and the baby girl has not been found. The search for the missing toddler is ongoing,” said Limpopo Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.
