Shalulile: Records Are Meant To Be Broken

Mamelodi Sundowns star Peter Shalulile has opened up about scoring back-to-back hat-tricks and becoming the first player to reach the 20-goal mark in the Premier Soccer League in a decade.
The 28-year-old netted three in the 4-2 win over Swallows in mid-week before being rested in their 5-0 win over Summerfield Dynamos in the Nedbank Cup quarter-final last Saturday.
Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi insisted the decision was important as they want to keep the likes of Bradley Ralani, Themba Zwane, Andile Jali and Shaliulie fresh and explosive’ whenever they take the field.
And they were duly rewarded with another special display from their talisman as he became the first player to score consecutive hattricks in the DStv Premiership as they inflicted the heaviest defeat on Golden Arrows in their 79-year history.

“I would like to give glory to God first, my teammates, most importantly, the technical team – it wasn’t an easy game at all, Arrows is not an easy team to beat but we gave it an A-game and got the six goals,” Shalulile told SuperSport TV after the game.
“To be honest, my excitement was more if [Themba] Zwane scored, he’s my Man of the Match, to be honest, he gave an assist, he was on his A-game and when I was on the bench I was just looking at my teammates and how they play and it was really something good to watch. The love and the brotherhood, that’s one thing I love a lot here.
“I always tell people, I want the team to do well first and then the rest will follow, with hard work it won’t go wrong that’s why I keep on scoring goals and I thank the fans for coming.
“Records are meant to be broken, they are set by [other] people, so we are all there to break them and it’s possible to get what I want to do, which is score more goals and get cups with the team.”
Shalulile is now four goals away from breaking Collins Mbesuma’s record of 25 league goals in a single campaign and has five games to achieve the feat.
