Peter Shalulile has revealed he is not happy about missing out on Collins Mbesuma’s goal record and wants to score 26 times next season.
The Mamelodi Sundowns striker ended the 2021/22 campaign with 23 goals after netting once against Royal AM in Masandawana’s final league match against Royal AM on Monday.
As a consequence, Shalulile ended the campaign on 23 strikes, which will earn him the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot award – his second after lifting the award already in 2019/22 when he scored 16 goals.
After the match, Shalulile insisted he wants more.
“I have to give glory to God, my teammates, the technical team and everybody who was involved this year,” he said on SuperSportTV.
“At the end of the day, things do not happen for a reason. This is why things like this happen.
“Maybe next year I’m scoring more goals. But all I can say, I’m grateful, to each and everyone, the supporters, for what they’ve done this year, it was amazing.
“To be honest I’m not satisfied, and I’m going to keep on fighting. I want 26 goals and that’s what champions do.”
Collins Mbesuma’s record of 25 league goals from the 2004/05 campaign is still standing.
