‘Shalulile Is One Of The Best In Africa’

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile is one of the best players in Africa, head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has affirmed amid his incredible goal-scoring form.
Shalulile, 28, has won back-to-back Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot awards and is the reigning PSL Footballer of the Season, but his exploits for Sundowns has not waned one bit.
In the 2021/22 campaign, the Namibia international has hit 18 goals in 24 league appearances, following his hattrick in the 4-2 win over Swallows at Dobsonville Stadium on Wednesday evening.
And with Sundowns now targeting a potential quadruple, with the MTN8 wrapped up, the league all but mathematically secured, it leaves the Nedbank Cup and CAF Champions still on offer – with Shaulile leading the assault on all fronts.
With Masandawana’s success lifting them towards a reputation of one of the continent’s finest clubs, Mngqithi says it naturally suggests that Shaulile is one of the best players – due to his status as their attacking talisman.
“You are right, his numbers are very good, ever since he joined the club he’s done well, he’s one of our best scorers – but besides his scoring rate, I would regard him as one of the best professional players I’ve ever worked with before I even go to his scoring,” he said in response to iDiski Times at Chloorkop on Thursday morning.
“I think Peter is an exemplary player to any young professional who aspires to become a top footballer, I think there’s a lot you can learn from the humility that he presents. He’s the one player that would probably be first if there’s a meeting here.
“He’ll be number one on the pitch, every game, even if we’re playing small-sided games, he’s got this mentality of wanting to score. Of wanting to see the ball touching the net. That makes him have some of the best attributes of some of the top players.
“No wonder he’s so consistent, if you check at Highlands Park, the goals he scored, he comes to Sundowns, two seasons in a row he’s delivering. And that says he’s one of the most important players for Sundowns.
“If he’s one of the most important players for Sundowns, naturally that says he’s one of the biggest players in Africa because we believe Sundowns is one of the biggest competitors in Africa – so I will agree with you to say he’s one of the best players on the continent.”
