Former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs star Siphiwe Tshabalala has spoken about the special relationship he has with former coach Steve Komphela.
The pair worked together at Naturena during Komphela’s time in charge at Chiefs between 2015 and 2018.
Tshabalala has expressed how Komphela was more than just a football coach to him, and the life lessons he learnt from him were invaluable.
“‘For me, Steve is not just a football coach – he’s a life coach, a reflection to one’s self and he also brings in that brother figure element,” Tshabalala said on MoneyEdge for Nedbank.
“His journey is authentic and relatable. Apart from that, the man is intelligent, you learn a lot from Steve and when he speaks you need to pay attention.
“The agenda may seem like its football, but you get more than that – you get advice on life in general.
“So, he’s someone that I respect and enjoy talking to, because I know the wisdom that I get from him.”
Tshabalala is currently a free agent, and is yet to retire from playing. Komphela is now the senior coach at Mamelodi Sundowns, assisting Manqoba Mngqithi and Rulani Mokwena.
