Serious message sent to Kaizer Chiefs star

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has received big praise from former Amakhosi shot-stopper Daniel Akpeyi after his strong start to the Betway Premiership season.

Amakhosi are the only team yet to concede a goal this season, and Petersen has been at the heart of that run.

The 29-year-old from Elsies River, Cape Town, has kept four clean sheets in four games, including a standout display in the recent 0-0 draw with champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

PRAISE AND CAUTION FOR KAIZER CHIEFS GOALKEEPER BRANDON PETERSEN

Former Amakhosi glove man Akpeyi, who was once teammates with Petersen and spent years in the shadow of Itumeleng Khune, says the current No.1 deserves recognition.

“Brandon has started the season well,” Akpeyi said. “His performances have helped the team avoid conceding any goals. I believe he is improving with each game. However, it’s important to recognise that whenever called upon, Brandon gives his best. I think this will be a good season for him, and I hope he can stay injury-free.

“You need to remain grounded after a good game and not think that it’s enough. Up until now, Petersen has been doing just that. He just needs to avoid distractions because too much praise can lead to complacency.

“You need to remain grounded after a good game and not think that it’s enough. You must always look forward to your next match and maintain consistency.

“Up until now, Petersen has been doing just that,” the former Kaizer Chiefs goalie concluded.
