Serie A Sides Keen On Ex-Sundowns Defender

Former Mamelodi Sundowns and AmaTuks defender Keegan Allan has reportedly attracted the interest from two Serie A clubs ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Allan, 21, enjoyed a standout first season in professional football with Tuks as he was part of the side that went to the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup and runners-up of the GladAfrica Championship.

Despite the heartbreak of losing the PSL promotion play-offs on the final day against Swallows, the towering defender was able to leave the club on a free transfer due to a non-promotion release clause in his contract he signed after rejecting a five-year deal with Sundowns.

SuperSport United, Orlando Pirates and Maritzburg United were among the clubs reportedly tracking his progression but reports in Italy suggest that Hellas Verona and Spezia are among the suitors in the Italian top-flight vying for his services.

His representative Mohamed Lawal, did, however, remain coy on the speculation stating there is interest but stopped short of confirming where his client may be heading next.

“There’s interest, we’re in discussions with some teams there but nothing is finalised and it’s not only in Italy, the main focus here is to see that Keegan takes the next step, he is a quality player with a very bright future,” Lawal tells iDiski Times.

“I believe this is the best moment for him to take the next step, for him to move to Europe, it will be the best thing to happen for his career at this moment because he’s at that age where he can develop rapidly if he moves to Europe.

“Hopefully things work as we plan. But at this point of his career, he needs to be on the field, he needs to be playing, he needs to develop and you only get that with first-team football, he won’t be what we can see he can be without it.

“There’s a lot of promise, yes, he’s just 21, so at this point, he can’t be watching from the sidelines, he needs to be on the field but there’s a lot of time for things to happen. There’s no pressure this early in his career but we’re looking forward to getting the best possible move for his career, whether it be locally or abroad right now.”

Allan racked up 24 appearances for Tuks last season scoring four goals in the process after three years campaigning in the DStv Diski Challenge with Masandawana..
