Seputla Sebogodi ‘Mohumi’ from The River accuses the acting industry of tribalism

In a recent interview with the King David Studio podcast, Seputla Sebogodi had a lot to say about his experience with the acting industry. The actor is one of the most famous South African actors and is famously known for his role in Generations as Kenneth Mashaba. However, Sebogodi’s biggest challenge as an actor has been the tribalistic nature of most of his parts.

Septula Sebogodi is an actor and gospel singer in Mzansi’s entertainment circles. He takes on villainous roles and roles of business people quickly, and many can say that it is like second nature to him to play his roles because of his talent. He is a well-known Sepedi-speaking actor who has been part of many productions since he debuted on Television screens in the 90s.

Seputla shares his life story on a podcast

In the podcast interview with King David Studio, the actor shared his childhood about how he lived with his maternal grandparents. He also shared how he played soccer at a younger age and found it easy to share his story. The actor even went on to talk about how his marriages failed and even how hopeful in still believing that he would want to give love another chance despite all that.

He had viewers’ attention when he started talking about his hardships as an actor during all his years as a performer. According to Seputla Sebogodi, the industry is tribalistic and favours people who speak Zulu over other languages openly. He urged people to look at all the productions they watch, and there are always Zulu-speaking people in them. The actor has also shared that he had recently turned down many roles because the showrunners would ask him if he speaks Zulu.

Septula Sebogodi revealed that if an actor is not a Zulu-speaking actor has little chance of getting work as an actor in the industry. According to him, if an actor can not speak Zulu, they will starve in Mzansi while Zulu-speaking talents take all the roles. Sebogodi likens actors who are from other tribes to scrambled eggs and gives examples of how many award ceremonies are held in Durban and never in provinces like Limpopo
