Banyana Banyana star Jermaine Seoposenwe has reacted to rumours about her injury ahead of the 2023 FIFA World Cup, insisting the issue is not as bad as first feared.

Seoposenwe, one of Banyana’s standout players, picked up an injury recently while on duty for her club FC Juarez Femenil in South America.

With information scarce and also being translated from Spanish into English, some in South Africa feared for the worst and that the 28-year-old could miss the World Cup in July and August.

However, Seoposenwe has now taken to social media to ease those fears, saying she didn’t rupture her achilles but is suffering from “tendinitis”.

She also insisted that she will do her best to return to the pitch as soon as possible to help her club, while also not risking a more severe injury ahead of the World Cup.

“Regarding the rumors and articles surrounding my injury, I have not ruptured my Achilles,” she wrote in a statement.

“I am however suffering from some tendinitis. The medical staff at my team have advised me to undergo a treatment called ‘Percutaneous Micro-electrolysis’ to help with pain and facilitate healing in my tendon.

“The treatment basically requires me to not do much weight barring exercises, especially running for one week and then I’ll gradually return to play based on how I am feeling.

“I want to get back as soon as I can, because my team is at a crucial part in the season, and I would like to play my part in helping FC Juarez reach their first ever playoff.

“However, I am also fully aware of the World Cup on the horizon. Which is why the medical team and myself will try to navigate through this period as best we can, as to avoid a serious long term injury.”
