‘Senzo Meyiwa was allegedly shot by Kelly Khumalo by mistake,’ Advocate Teffo

Defence lawyer Advocate Malesela Teffo has pulled a shocker, and it seems as if heads will roll as the Senzo Meyiwa’s case takes yet another twist.

The lawyer revealed that a crucial eyewitness would be brought in to testify that the late Orlando Pirates shot-stopper was accidentally shot by Kelly Khumalo, who was his girlfriend at that time.

Teffo revealed this while he was cross-examining forensic officer Sergeant Thabo Mosia. The police officer was one of the first to arrive at the scene of the shooting in Vosloorus.

Earlier this week, the second docket of the Senzo Meyiwa’s murder case took Centre stage at the Pretoria High Court.

The controversial advocate made it clear that the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) wanted to pursue a case against seven individuals in the house the night Senzo died.

“The leading investigator, in this case, says it is nonsensical that people entered the house that night and shot Meyiwa. I put it to you Mr Mosia that an eyewitness will come and testify that Senzo Robert Meyiwa was allegedly shot by Nonhlanhla Kelly Khumalo by mistake,” he said.

The advocate revealed that the very same witness would prove beyond the courts that the firearm belonged to Chicco Twala’s son, Longwe. He also has it that the witness will bring to light that the firearm was a revolver and not a 9mm pistol as the State alleges.

In the indictment for the case, the Director of Public Prosecutions in the South Gauteng division stated that the relevant people who are supposed to appear before the court are: Longwe Twala (accused 1), Kelly Khumalo (accused 2), Gladness Khumalo (accused 3), Zandie Khumalo (accused 4), Tumelo Madlala (accused 5), Mthokozisi Twala (accused 6) and Maggie Phiri (accused 7).

The people named above were accused of murder and defeating the ends of justice. Unconfirmed reports have it that after learning the passing away of Senzo, accused 1 to 6 hatched a plan and nailed robbers. Accused seven is said to have tried to clean up the scene before the police arrived at the shooting scene.
