Senior SAPS Officer Faces Suspension Over Medicare 24 Tender

Major General Thokozani N. Mathonsi, Component Head in SAPS Visible Policing and Operations, has been served with a Notice of Intention to Suspend over his alleged role in the controversial R360 million Medicare24 Tshwane District tender linked to businessman Vusimuzi Cat Matlala.

The notice follows a forensic investigation into procurement irregularities, including alleged failures to follow bid adjudication processes and conduct proper due diligence on the bidder. The tender was later cancelled and has become a key focus of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

Mathonsi is among several senior SAPS officers facing possible suspension as internal disciplinary processes continue. The matter forms part of a broader crackdown on corruption within SAPS procurement systems linked to the Medicare24 scandal.
