Sekhukhune United have completed a league double over Kaizer Chiefs this season with their 1-0 DStv Premiership win at the New Peter Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Babina Noko looked bright in the early stages of the contest as they were searching for an opener.
The home side broke the deadlock just four minutes into the showdown through Sammy Seabi.
However, Amakhosi improved as the half wore on but were unable to find a breakthrough against the resilient Limpopo side.
The Glamour Boys tried to pull one back, but luck was not on their side.
SEKHUKHUNE UNITED LEADING AT THE BREAK
The encounter went into the interval with the home side leading by 1-0.
Back out for the remaining 45 minutes, the game got off to a cagey start, as both sides struggled to find any real momentum.
As the second half progressed, Arthur Zwane’s charges piled pressure on the hosts – taking control of proceedings, but largely failing to break down Sekhukhune’s back four.
Amakhosi needed something to lift the tension as time was running out. The signs were encouraging with Chiefs growing increasingly into the match – searching for an equaliser. However, it was never meant to be.
The game calmed down a bit as the half drew on, with the visitors finding it hard to settle into a rhythm and prolonged ball possession from Sekhukhune.
Babina Noko’s relentless way of doing things in the field of play denied the Chiefs time and space on the ball.
SEKHUKHUNE UNITED CLAIM THREE POINTS AT HOME
The final whistle blew, and it sealed a deserved victory for Brandon Truter’s men, who fought hard throughout the game and might have won the game with more goals.
As things stand, Sekhukhune are placed sixth on the table with 35 points after 26 games.
Meanwhile, Chiefs remain in position four on the log standings with 41 points from 26 outings.
