Security officers arrested in Mpumalanga for allegedly stealing medication and selling it

Khethiwe Moloi, 49, and Dumisani Aaron Mahlasela, 61, appeared in the Evander Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday following thier arrest for stealing and selling medication.

According to the Mpumalanga Hawks, the two security guards who are responsible for guarding various clinics in the Gert Sibande District Municipality were released on R3000 bail each.

Moloi and Mahlasela were arrested on Tuesday after the Hawks received information that a security guard in the area was selling medication, spokesperson Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi said.

Hawks searched Moloi’s  house, they allegedly found various types of medication and surgical gloves.

“Upon further investigation, the team proceeded to Mahlasela at Emalahleni. The team proceeded to his house. During the search, different medications which required prescriptions were found and confiscated. He was also arrested.,” said captain  Sekgotodi.

Medication found included contraceptives, flu medication and painkillers. The two guards have been charged with the contravention of the Medical Act.

The case has been postponed to 14 July for further investigation.
