Second Kaizer Chiefs star joins Bafana Bafna

Kaizer Chiefs fans have every reason to smile from ear to ear. Two Amakhosi boys are joined the green and gold this week, carrying the Glamour Boys’ spirit into the Bafana Bafana camp.

First it was the exciting Mduduzi Shabalala, and now Thabiso Monyane has been handed his shot by Hugo Broos after Nyiko Mobbie’s unfortunate injury.

“The injury happened as a result of a clash of heads in the first half and he sustained a fracture of the eye socket in three places,” Bafana Bafana team doctor Tshepo Molobi said.

Monyane, who only joined Kaizer Chiefs at the start of the season, has settled quickly and this call-up is his reward.

The 25-year-old will be part of the squad that takes on Nigeria in a crunch 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday night in Bloemfontein.

For a player who has already impressed Amakhosi fans with his energy down the flank, this is a chance to show he belongs at international level too.

South Africa’s win over Lesotho meant they remained top of Group C with 16 points, five ahead of second-placed Benin, who beat Zimbabwe 1-0. But Tuesday’s clash with the Super Eagles will be the true test, and with Monyane and Shabalala in the mix, Kaizer Chiefs suddenly have a strong hand in shaping the country’s World Cup dream.
